Supporting Early Childhood Educators & Care Providers

BC’s provincial government has released an Early Care and Learning Recruitment and Retention Strategy.  In it, the government recognizes that early childhood educators (ECEs) and other child care professionals, “have the specific knowledge, skills and abilities needed to help shape the learning experiences of children.” In order to fulfill the province’s need for more of these professionals to meet the demand for quality child care they have developed a strategy that will:

  1. Encourage people to start a career in the early care and learning sector
  2. Support professionals who are already working in child care

The key elements of the strategy include:

  • Wage enhancement
  • Education and training
  • Professional development
  • Updated competencies and standards

To support these professionals, government is investing $136 million over three years, supplemented by $16.3 million in federal funding, to make a career as an ECE more attractive and sustainable.
